SOMETIMES, LOVE SEEMS COLD THAN COLD

But what is the temperature of our love? Sometimes our love seems colder than this cold weather. We are accustomed to connect love with possession, when God shows us that love is only - and always - in the gift. Is possessive love authentically love? The love that comes from God, the love that is God, is always oblative love. It is always love that gives, love that gives itself, love that gives itself, love that forgives.

Let us try, then, to check the temperature of our love with the great thermometer which is the Gospel of Jesus. How is our love for God? Let us not try to separate what God has joined together. God has united divine love and human love. We will only truly love our neighbor if we are willing to truly love God.

When one loves one always considers what is given little. When one loves, one feels that the other deserves more. That is why St. Therese of the Child Jesus (and the Holy Face) saw in this text of St. Paul an illuminating focus. She wanted nothing more: she wanted love. In the heart of the Church, she wanted to "be love."

Nothing else we should want, we, too. We must not want anything but love. Let us thus cultivate love: love for God and love for all from God. And let's not even worry about loving. Let us seek to place in others the love of God, the love that is God. Let us love others with the love of God, with the love that is God.
