PRAYERS TO THE HEALER OF CANCER, THE MOTHER OF GOD, PANAGIA PANTANASSA

(Orthodox Prayers)

First Prayer to the Mother of God

O All-Gracious, most wondrous Mother of God, Pantanassa, Queen of All! I am not worthy that Thou shouldst enter under my roof! But as Thou art the lovingly compassionate Mother of the merciful God, say the word that my soul may be healed and my weakened body strengthened. For Thou hast unconquerable might, and all Thy speech hath power, O Queen of All! Do Thou gain the victory for me, do Thou supplicate for me - that I may glorify Thy most glorious name, always, now and ever, and unto endless ages. Amen.

Second Prayer to the Mother of God

O Most-Pure Mother of God, O Queen of All! Hearken unto our much-afflicted sighing before Thy miraculous Icon, brought to Russia from the land of Athos. Look upon Thy children, suffering from unhealed ailments, who fall down before Thy holy image with faith! As a bird covers its nestlings with its wings, so do Thou now, who art ever present, cover us with Thy greatly healing omophorion. In that place where Hope be.

There where bitter sorrows overcome us, there will Patience and Rest be revealed. Where the torment of despair dwells in the soul, there will shine the ineffable Light of Divinity! Console the fainthearted, strengthen the weak, bestow softening and enlightenment upon embittered hearts. Heal Thine ailing people, O All-merciful Queen! Bless the minds and hands of our physicians, that they might serve as instruments of the All-powerful Physician, Christ our Saviour. We pray before Thine Icon, that Thou mightest truly live with us, O Sovereign Lady! Stretch out Thy hands, filled with healing and cures, O Joy of the sorrowful, Consolation in afflictions, that having speedily received miraculous help, wee may glorify the Life-creating and Undivided Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Troparion Tone 4

Do Thou, O Sovereign lady,
By Thy joy-bestowing honorable Icon "Queen of All,"
Save those who with fervent desire implore Thy grace;
Deliver from afflictions those who run to Thee;
From all dangers do Thou guard Thy flock,
Who ever call upon Thine intercession.

(You can order this Akathist in booklet form from St. Paisius Serbian Orthodox Monastery, P.O. Box 1075, Safford, Arizona 85548 for $3.95.)

This beautiful akathist is written to the Mother of God, "Pantanassa" or "Queen of All", a 17th-century miraculous Icon treasured in the Athonite Greek Monastery of Vatopedi. Through the grace of this Icon, there were so many healings of cancer that a copy of it was requested, and blessed, to be painted for those suffering in Russia from this severe disease. There too, many miracles have occurred.

*Photo- The Miraculous Icon of The Most Holy Theotokos, Panagia Pantanassa is a portable Icon dating back to the 17th century. It is placed at the left hand proskynitarion of the north eastern pillar in the Katholikon of the Holy Monastery.

One day a young man from Cyprus entered the Church and went to venerate the Holy Icon. At this point, Elder Joseph of Vatopedi+ saw a sharp light coming from the face of Panagia on the Icon and an unseen force dropped the young man to the ground. Once he came to his senses, he confessed that he lived a life of sin and was involved in dark magic. The miraculous action of Panagia Pantanassa made this young man change his ways and become a believer.

The Holy Icon also has the special Grace from God to heal people with cancer. There are many accounts from people across the world, which have been healed from their cancer after reciting the paraklesis service of Panagia Pantanassa.

Many more miracles have occurred recently in Russia after the request of the Moscow Patriarchate for two copies of the Holy Icon to be sent from the Holy Monastery. The first copy of the Holy Icon is at the Church of All Saints in Krasnoe Selo in Moscow and the second is at the Monastery of Christ’s Transfiguration in Novospaski. The most notable miracles have taken place at the centre for childrens oncology in central Moscow. of a 5 year old child with cancer - has occurred when the Akathist was said before the icon. But, more than that, many healings have occurred that have never been reported, simply because people have said the Akathist in secret.

The Holy Icon is celebrated on the 15th (28) of October. In Russia it is celebrated on the 18th (31) of August, three days after the Dormition of Panagia.
